EVENT OVERVIEW
This workshop covers activity planning and daily routines using PDCA (Plan, Do, Check, Act) and daily management and improvement activities using SDCA (Standardise, Do, Check, Act).
The outcome you should expect is to be able to confidently plan, visualise those plans in action along with your activities to keep business operations stable, smooth, and slim. The importance of standardised work will be shared along with the different types that will best suit your work conditions. How to reflect and improve your own standardise work and routines along with those of your team. It will also cover how to coordinate standardisation.
You will also learn how to develop a dynamic form of standardised work which will constantly improve the span of your capacity. There will be an opportunity to start creating a management system of documents for this during the workshop. One that supports the continuous flow from Planning to Doing, Checking and Standardisation.
If you expect team members to follow standardised work then you have to demonstrate that you can create it not just for them but yourself. This experience helps you design and integrate standardisation. The importance of constantly readjusting challenges to improve team member skills for maximum engagement will also be highlighted. No matter how experienced in supervision, this will be an opportunity to reflect on your current thinking and to learn something new from others.
WHAT ATTENDEES WILL LEARN
It comprises of 3 structured sessions of 1.5 hours, on-line, over three weeks. and an optional 1:1 coaching session after the course. These sessions have the number of participants limited to ensure individual contexts are given consideration.
Session 1 (1.5 hr online)
There are many different individual approaches to supervision, each with its own characteristics. Session one will critically review the logic behind a supervisor having dynamic standardised work as part of the approach. Does it fit into your workplace and if so how? This will be the starting point of the dialogue between the facilitator and the participants.
Key themes in this session:
- the role of leader, manager and supervisor
- understanding how to supervise employees post COVID
- the importance of flow and the elimination of waste
- the different types of standardised work 1
- measurement and control of standardised work
- what it means to make standardised work dynamic
- the importance of visualisation and documentation
The other topics covered will be:
- common definitions and terminology
- common misconceptions associated with standardised work
There will also be an opportunity to engage by asking questions and sharing experiences of your current supervision style.
Session 2 (1.5 hr online)
In session two we will look at the techniques used to create your own standardised work and what needs to be visualised in the workplace to demonstrate your control of not just your work but that of the teams.
Key themes in this session include:
- processes for bringing your daily routine into standard
- how to assess the current capacity of your management system
- how to implement abnormality management
- creation of a daily management system to review standardised work
- planning in anticipation of change and immediate response standards
- how to use PDCA & SDCA
Session 3 (1.5 hr online)
Session three builds the points covered in the first two sessions to incorporate them into a deployment plan. This is an action planning session where you will have the opportunity to work along, in open dialogue with the facilitator, in creating a plan to deploy your dynamic standardised work.
Themes covered:
- creating a plan to ensure your practice generates responsive actions
- creating a three month activity plan
- developing a document management system
- how to establish visual management systems
- the importance and steps of starting with 5S
- the techniques and practice of engagement
- the techniques to embed rules and your judgement into the workplace
This will be facilitated as a team activity between the participants and the facilitator.
Note: It is easy thinking to create a checklist or personal routine - it requires deeper thinking to create a dynamic technique that constantly leads the business or organisation in the direction you set; at the speed you require. Even when you are not present.
As this is an introductory course there will also be an opportunity in this session to discuss your own personal development - how to deepen your understanding and skills. It will include a discussion of the next steps for your organisation.
Session 4 (1 hr online)
Is an optional 1:1 coaching session after the course to answer any questions arising from the workshop or your subsequent action plan. This can be used to discuss the specific difficulties you are facing.
